Neymar May Quit Barcelona: ‘Agrees’ to Join Paris Saint-Germain in World Record $248m Transfer Deal
In a stunning move that has rocked the football world, Brazilian star Neymar has reportedly agreed to quit Barcelona and join Paris Saint-Germain in a world-record $248m (£190million) mega-deal.
The stunner, reported by Interactive Sport, crushes the previous $116m (£89m) Manchester United paid Juventus last year for Paul Pogba.
The deal is expected to go through “in the next couple of weeks.” Barcelona, we should add, insist Neymar will be staying put.
The 25-year-old is said to be unsettled at the Camp Nou, despite signing a contract last year supposedly keeping him at the club until 2021.
But PSG – with money to burn – is prepared to pay Barcelona the $248m buy-out clause. Executives have already agreed personal terms with the player, says the report.
One of the reasons Neymar’s unhappy in Spain is because he feels isolated at the club where Lionel Messi is the undisputed king and he has no close friends. The striker would team up with fellow Brazilians Marquinhos, Thiago Silva and Lucas Moura in Paris.
New PSG addition Dani Alves, also Brazilian, was brought in as a sweetener because the two are close from their days together at Barca.
The move will be especially sweet for PSG boss Unai Emery after his team was knocked out of the Champions League by Barcelona – and a surpreme solo effort by Neymar – after leading 4-0 in the first leg.
Emery almost persuaded the Brazilian to go to Paris last year and now it appears he may have finally got his man after missing out on the Ligue 1 title to Monaco.
